Preparation

With just 33 days until Training Camp and 112 days until Launch, I wanted to write a blog explaining some behind the scenes of prepping to leave the country for 11 months and go on The World Race.

Disclaimer: This is a process that I am still learning, so I am by no means a professional.

Since applying, having a phone interview and getting accepted into this journey, it has been a crazy and beautiful ride. I still can’t believe that I am leaving the country for 11 months in just 112 short days.

I have an advisor that has been so amazing in answering a million questions. We have occasional phone calls where I update him on my journey with fundraising, life and how I am feeling about the race. He serves an amazing purpose and he keeps me calm, even if he doesn’t know it.

I have a fellow Mooresvillian (not sure if that is a word, but we are rolling with it) that has recently got back from The World Race and she has been a HUGE blessing!! We meet for coffee, go on walks and I message her constantly about any question that I can think of. She has helped me with fundraising ideas, packing tips, life guidance and so so much more. So thankful for this new friendship and the insight she has!

From my church, I often meet with one of my pastors who also loves missions. It is so refreshing to speak with someone who has a love for missions, because he gets it. He gets that mission work isn’t always going to be a good time. Sometimes that means being dirty, exhausted and longing for a hot shower. But we both love missions and there are so many upsides like meeting so many new people, spreading the Lord’s love and realizing hot showers aren’t everything.

The World Race has a ton of terminology much like any organization does, so I will do my best to keep everyone updated on that. I am still learning for myself what everything means so look out for another blog that will be similar to this one once I know more!

Training Camp – an intensive 10 day experience in Georgia to get us prepared to live on the field. We practice using our gear, living out of a backpack, washing our clothes in buckets and eating new foods. We also will learn how to grow deeper with God, evangelize and meet our squad!!

Squad – The group of people I will be doing life with for the next 11 months. I believe there is roughly 15-20 of us in Squad B. I will not be doing this alone!

Launch- When I fly to Georgia to meet back up with my Squad and have a little bit more training for a few days before we leave for Nicaragua!

What type of blogs would you like to see in the future?

Here for ya Kellie, and I’d love to see a blog about how you’ve been seeing God use you in missions here in Mooresville, even before you leave!! That’s always amazing to me 🙂
